Reading With Mrs. Richardson is dedicated to making a lasting impact through Reading literacy programs

At Reading with Mrs. Richardson, we believe that literacy is the key to unlocking a brighter, more empowered future. Our vision is for every child—no matter their background—to have access to stories that not only reflect their own lives but also inspire them to dream big and reach their full potential.

Through the power of diverse literature, we aim to create a world where all young readers feel seen, heard, and capable of shaping their own stories.

Knowledge Keepers provides literacy support tailored for middle school students, aligning all lessons with Tennessee academic standards to ensure preparedness for standardized tests and overall educational success.

What makes Knowledge Keepers unique is its intentional focus on literature that amplifies often untold Black and Brown stories. By exploring diverse narratives, students gain exposure to different perspectives while developing critical thinking skills about race, identity, and social justice.

Beyond traditional literacy instruction, Knowledge Keepers integrates creativity in the arts, enabling students to bring stories to life innovatively. This multidimensional approach fosters a deeper engagement with the material and nurtures an enduring appreciation for the transformative power of storytelling.

Currently, Knowledge Keepers operates at Raleigh-Egypt Middle and Circles of Success Learning Academy. We previously served students at Georgian Hills Elementary through a partnership with ICY Arts, and Heal the Hood Foundation of Memphis.

Rooted Readers is a literacy initiative dedicated to providing books written by diverse authors and underserved communities to children. By emphasizing representation in literature, this program helps young readers see themselves and their experiences reflected in powerful, inspiring stories.

Since 2020, Rooted Readers has logged over 1,500 digital reading hours using Epic and distributed over 8,000 books across the Mid-South. We’ve also established a library for students in South Memphis at Circles of Success Learning Academy, with plans underway for a new neighborhood program in Frayser.

Through Rooted Readers, children discover the transformative power of storytelling, fostering a love for reading while nurturing a strong connection to their heritage. By planting the seeds of knowledge and cultural pride, we help young readers grow strong roots in their identities and flourish into confident, empowered individuals.
